How to Generate a Secure Password in Google Chrome and Firefox

The most popular and widely used web browsers, Google Chrome and Firefox have a built-in password generating feature. This feature will help you to generate strong and secure passwords for you. In this blog, I’m going to teach you how to generate a secure password in Google Chrome and Firefox browsers.

The strong password will keep our digital life safe. So we need to generate strong and secure passwords for any login platforms. 

What is a Secure or Strong Password?

A strong and Secure password means mixing of numbers, uppercase, and lowercase letters, characters, etc. The strong password should be 12-15 characters long and 100 percent of strength. 

How to generate a secure and strong password in Google Chrome

Google Chrome already has a password save and synchronization feature. It allows you to view your saved passwords. Now it has a built-in strong and secure password generator option. It can generate strong passwords for you when you sign up for different websites.

So how to use that feature? let’s get into this.

Google Chrome’s password manager is enabled by default. If it is not enabled then you can simply follow the steps below to enable this feature.

  1. Open your Google Chrome browser and go to the following URL: chrome://flags/#google-password-manager
  1. Enable the flags
  2. Restart the browser

After the password manager option is enabled, you can follow the steps below to generate a strong and secure password.

  1. Go to the website where you want to create an account
  2. Go to sign up option and fill the required field
  3. Click the password field and you will get the password suggestion prompt.
  4. Click the suggested password and you can copy and paste your safe location to memorize.

The generated password, Google Chrome automatically saves on your google account. It will sync when you enter the email or username for a specific website.

How to generate a secure and strong password in Firefox

Firefox also has a similar feature like Google Chrome. It will save and generate your passwords like Google Chrome. The feature called Firefox Lockwise in Firefox. 

For use that feature, you need to enable two setting:

  1. signon.generation.available and 
  2. signon.generation.enabled.

After these settings are set to true, the password suggestion will appear in the Firefox for any websites. 

Now you can follow the steps below to generate a secure password.

  1. Go to the website where you want to create an account
  2. Go to sign up option and fill the required field
  3. Click the password field and you will get the password suggestion prompt.
  4. Click the suggested password and you can copy and paste your safe location to memorize.

Your generated password will automatically be saved to your browser. Whenever you open this website again in Firefox and try to sign in, the saved password will appear in the password field. You can simply click on it and sign in.

Limitations

They have certain limitations of the built-in password generator of Firefox and Google Chrome browser.

Some of them are listed below.

  1. You can’t edit your password.
  2. You need to sign in on your browser to sync your password.
  3. You are unable to organize the credentials. etc.
